Pazo de Betarra

Pazo de Betarra is an old stone country house, once of great importance in the area. It was built in the early 1700’s by a stone mason, famous for his work at the cathedral in Santiago De Compostela, as a gift to one of his sons.

A warm welcome awaits you at Pazo de Betarra from Geoff and Jane Fox and their children Charlie and Esme-Lily. The house, grounds, tower and patios have been lovingly restored incorporating the original features, including, fortifications, fireplaces and bread ovens, to create a stylish and cosy retreat. Each room has been decorated and furnished individually to the highest standard, simple, rustic and chic.

The house sits in the centre of its own land, 1km away from the main village of Campo Lameiro, nestled between the hills just above the Rio Lerez in the province of Pontevedra. The  location is very tranquil, with magnificent views and many acres of open meadows and woodland to enjoy.

In Galicia there is a long tradition of small holding and self sufficiency. The landscape is divided into small parcels of land, organically farmed by extended family and used to grow maize or for grazing small flocks of sheep, goats or the occasional cow.  The Fox family have embraced this tradition, they have restored the surrounding farmland, vineyards and orchards to produce, fresh fruit, vegetables, wine and cider and raise lambs and piglets.
